Combating Certificate Forgery in Uganda

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) is intensifying efforts to fight the surge in fake UCE, UACE, and degree certificates circulating among graduates. Employers are urged to verify all academic documents before hiring.

Steps to Verify a Certificate

  1. Collect the original certificate and transcript from the candidate.
  2. Note the candidate’s full name, examination year, and index/centre number.
  3. Contact the nearest UNEB regional examination centre or headquarters.
  4. Submit the documents for physical or official verification.
  5. Receive official confirmation or report suspected forgery.
  6. Keep records of all verifications for your organisation’s safety.

UNEB Public Announcement on Certificate Forgery Crackdown

UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo has warned that the Board is taking strong action against examination malpractice and forged certificates. In the recent 2025 UACE examinations, results of 351 candidates from 47 centres were withheld pending investigations.

Employers and institutions are advised to always verify certificates through official UNEB channels to avoid hiring individuals with fake documents. UNEB will continue hearings for UCE 2025 malpractice cases starting March 2026. Any suspected forgery should be reported immediately to the nearest UNEB centre or headquarters.
